Latin America on Tour: Migration in Development
Migrants all over the world send massive amounts of money back home. In total, this is an amount many times bigger than what Western countries spend on development aid. This money plays a role in the economic and social development of the home countries. Yet migration does not appear in the Millennium Development Goals that were established by the United Nations. At the same time, little attention is given to the function and potential of these cash flows. Are migrants the missing link in accomplishing the millennium development goals?
